Matthew Smith
A proven professional with 15 years experience in the waterproofing and construction industry, Matt Smith is recognized as one of the Portland area’s premier field investigators of moisture-related intrusion into building envelopes. His experience with waterproofing, construction methodology, defect and material troubleshooting, and knowledge of building code and manufacturers’ specifications has involved him in hundreds of construction defect cases providing litigation support and expert witness testimony. Mr. Smith and Forensic Building continue to lead the local industry in a long overdue focus for incorporating sound building science principles and practices in the design and execution of building projects.

Matt serves on the Board of Directors at Thomas Edison High School, a school dedicated to educating children with learning differences. Additionally, Matt is a very gifted multi-instrument musician and composer who has performed on tour in locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Toby White
Mr. White is among the foremost authorities on building envelopes and building science in the Pacific Northwest. With a historic understanding of the evolution of building materials and encyclopedic knowledge of building codes, Toby provides comprehensive research of product performance, approved application techniques, forensic evaluation of failed construction materials, as well as setting industry standards for testing methodology. Toby is certified by the International Code Council® as a commercial building inspector.

Gabe brings more than 10 years of experience as an expert in stucco materials and exterior insulation and finish systems. As a co-owner and production manager of a construction foam and building supply company, he worked extensively with architects and contractors designing and correctly installing exterior building materials. Gabe has a passion for detail and commitment for "doing things right."

Eric Hand

Bronx native, Eric moved to Oregon 2 years ago after working at renown historic preservation firms in San Francisco and Washington, DC and receiving a B.A. in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley. As a preservation architect, Eric conducted condition assessments, produced design documents & specifications, and oversaw repairs and conservation treatments to many of our nation's landmarks, including Mission San Juan Capistrano, the U.S. Supreme Court Building, and the U.S. Capitol Building.

At Forensic, Eric is a building science consultant and project manager focusing on investigations, condition assessments, and rehabilliations of existing structures in Oregon & Utah. Eric is a LEED BD+C accreddited professional and serves as a Commissioner on the Corvallis Historic Resources Commission. In his free time, Eric is an avid skier and traveler with his fiance, Olivia and the proud father of two rescue beagles, Oski & Odin.

With over 13 years of experience as an accounting professional Frankie serves as Financial Controller, Office Manager and head of Human Resources. Lindsay Day
Lindsay Day, Forensic's Project Coordinator, loves the opportunity her position affords her to directly communicate with our customers -- not to mention the view of the Willamette River from her desk. Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and is a recent University of Oregon law school graduate. Her education and background in non-profit law prepared her well to maintain attorney case files but it is her unmatched skill coordinating schedules between principals and investigators that earned her the nickname "The Juggler.” Lindsay's commitment to helping others shines through in her day-to-day interactions with everyone within and outside of the office.

Jerry Gomoll
As a Portland native of 47 years, Jerry has a construction background stretching back to his early teens working with his Father on rental homes and apartments. Previous to joining Forensics' venerable group of technicians, Jerry worked for RH Construction for 11 years starting as an apprentice carpenter and rising through the ranks to Project Superintendent in the Restorations division. Among many notable career benchmarks, Jerry has worked on two of the largest construction restoration projects in the state, and high end residential homes in the northwest

His many duties include client outreach & relations management, preliminary investigation and assessment, and maintenance & reserve study plans.

Rob LoPiccoloRobert LoPiccolo brings 6 years of construction defect experience, to the Forensic team as a Building Science Consultant. A Portland transplant originally from Texas, Rob has enjoyed his last twelve years living and working in downtown Northwest. After attending Texas Tech, Rob obtained a degree in design communication. He now leads the innovation at Forensic as our company continues to grow and succeed in the construction defect industry. His attention to detail carries over to his personal life where he is a motorcycle aficionado as well as culinary wizard.

Chris Smith
Chris joins the Forensic family as Office Coordinator, eager to be a part of a team that is dedicated to making clients and other team members happy. After living on the Oregon Coast Chris decided to forego the rain and sand and move back to the rain and pavement of Portland. With 5 years in retail managerial experience and 7 years experience in the construction rehabilitation industry, Chris was the perfect fit for ensuring clients’ and team members’ needs are met and the office runs smoothly day-to-day. When he’s not producing music or hibernating in the winter, Chris is searching for sunshine and playing disc golf. Chris also a desire to learn CAD drafting and design and would love to someday implement that into his work here at Forensic.

Michael is an Architectural Job Captain with extensive primary role experience in all levels of construction and contract documentation production. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and has practical knowledge of Commerical, Retail, Educational, Single and Multi-family Residental, Ecumenical, Institutional, and Civic project types. His sustainable project involvement includes a new LEED Silver Middle School in Corvallis, OR and a LEED Certified retail center in Medford, OR. In addition to his technical services role as part of Forensic's BEC Team, he is also a principal resource for vital 3D visualizations in Sketch-Up and frequent color renderings.

Nick McElmurry

Having recently graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Civil Engineering,Nick McElmurry joins the Forensic team as a Building Science Technician. Nick brings a variety of experience to our construction defect team including providing design services to Oregon State University, providing maintenance recommendations for institutional buildings, as well as testing buildings for seismic analysis. Nick grew up in Oregon, reguarly backpacking over Mt. Hood and has plans to stay here continuing to learn and perfect his expertise in the construction defect field and as a home brewer, take advantage of Oregon's numerous local breweries.
